Mylene in Douai, 19 June 2009
Good evening,
I know it will seem strange to the rest of you that I am writing in English, but believe it or not I live in London and I Love Mylene Farmer's music! Having followed her career since I discovered her back in 2000, to actually see her perform live last weekend was a lifetime highlight.
Despite the 30 minute atmospheric instrumental introduction, the crowd were welcoming as Mylene arrived with opening track Paradis Inanime when we were also introduced to the evening's stage set, all focusing on the latest album; skeletons, self-harming dolls and 2 giant human figures which moved as the show progressed. Totally breathtaking and magical.
The show went on for over 2 hours, bringing together (in what flet like 3 parts) all of Mylene's greatest Hits. Optimistique Moi, XXL and Appelle Mon Numero were the first of many tracks that followed, showing just how eclectic Mylene's sound actually is, moving on to a mid section of ballads all from different periods in her career, all highlighting just how pure and beautifully unique Mylene's vocal actually is. The emotion on these ballads transcends to her fans. Is it right that we all cry when she cries?... the relationship is clearly a strong one. After much emotion we entered the final part of the show. the dance-off, the lights, the costumes, an array of campness and most importantly Mylene at her most electrifying as she sang Desnchantee, Libertine, Degeneration and Sans Contrefacons back to back, each song reminding us just how great this artist is. For the encore C'est Dans L'Air kept the the crowds bouncing as the Gaultier-dressed dancers packed the stage for the last time.
A totally amazing show Mylene, thank u so much for making many dreams come true. All this coming from a fan may sound bias but my friend who is French who came with me was not a fan before the concert, but following the grand show, you have managed to convert the unconvertable.
Mylene, you just keep getting better. This concert was by far the best I have ever been to.
Regards to all the fans out there and Mylene, Bravo! xx
